Jaimie Gusman, Gertrude's Attic

Available November 2014.

Jaimie Gusman is the author of two poetry chapbooks, One Petal Row (Tinfish Press, 2011) and The Anyjar (Highway 101 Press, 2011). She is also the founder of Mixing Innovative Arts, an award-winning monthly reading and summer workshop series in Honolulu. Originally from Florida, with a stint in Washington for her M.F.A., she resides on O'ahu in Hawai'i.

Description: As a container, the attic is a refuge for secret objects and a repository for ordinary objects. As anatomy, the attic is a space just above the ear drum, responsible for transmitting external sound to the fluid labyrinth of the ear. These poems are experiments in the shape and sound of memories, inspired by Gertrude Stein’s “portraits,” particularly those written during World War II.
