Toby Fitch, Everyday Static

In the chapbook Everyday Static, Toby Fitch’s first publication, the shadow side of things is brought to the fore in a meticulous and delicate portrayal of anxiety. With a canny, clear-eyed sense of self-irony, Fitch explores in luminous and lucid ways the relation of the self to the world, and the hesitations of everyday life. His poems skillfully take the reader into the rhythms and perspectives of feeling and seeing which allow the outer world and the inner world to splendidly dovetail.

“…it makes me feel as if I'm reeling on my feet, as if I were facing a swooning, malevolent abyss - yet its images are steadying, the precision of the language and the fine lineation keep an exquisite balance: there's beauty, awe, life and death…” –Judith Beveridge

Toby Fitch was born in London and raised in Sydney. His chapbook Everyday Static was published by Vagabond Press, 2010. His first full-length book of poems is set for publication in early 2012 through Puncher & Wattman. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Sydney University.
