Liam Ferney, Career

Career is the story of an English teacher marooned in the outer suburbs of Seoul during the 2002 World Cup. It is a tale of typhoons, late night bars, cab rides and broken hearts; a high-intensity  collection for fans of cigarettes, B-movies and Korean culture. The slim collection perfectly capturing the neon world of early-twenties English teachers on good wages with far too much time on their hands.

"Ferney's poetry is like a radio that wont stay in tune, instead sliding up and down the FM and AM dials, snatches of talkback, classic rock and sports commentary pebbled amongst the static. Career is Personism redux, the New York dilettante re-imagined as an English teacher in South Korea, crafting a life and a narrative out of a blast zone of culture shock and relationship breakdown. This is a collection that doesn't just look to Asia, it is part of Asia, helping redefine and re-imagine our relationship with our near neighbors." Peter Minter

Liam Ferney is a Brisbane poet. Currently working in politics, he lived in Korea in 2002 where he worked as an English teacher. Career follows 2004's Popular Mechanics. He doesn't have a PhD.
