Stephanie Christie’s poetry has taken form in theatre, moving image, spoken word performances, zines, art installations, music and dance. She lives in Hamilton, New Zealand, a town frantic with social diversity. Stephanie’s work is fed by art, lyrics, science, plants, subcultural politics, cross-cultural conversations, and all the rich details of diurnal existence. Her job as an adult literacy tutor, issues with anxiety, and craving for action on climate change give great opportunities for growth and insights. She has published a book with Titus Press and has another forthcoming.
Description: Everything is material. The Facts of Light is a collection that’s sharp and wrecklessly itself. Intelligent, playful, singular, and often funny, these poems are sensually abstract and obstinately figurative. Creating space for delicate and passionate ambivalence, the work generates its own worlds. The poems give shape to the feel of ideas, act like digital photos of exploding cliché, and sing about the almost unbearable tension between sound and meaning. Most of all, this poetry is part of a desperate and determined mission of loving harder, deeper and more.
