James Stuart, Imitation Era
Imitation Era’s poems reassamble historical and personal landscapes spanning Australia and China. Merging urban and pastoral sensibility, the poems move playfully across the language of symbolism, emotion and sport.
James Stuart’s most recent projects include Conversions, an exhibition of poetry in translation (Chengdu, Suzhou and Beijing) and, The Material Poem, an e-anthology of text-based art and inter-media writing. He won the 2010 Newcastle Poetry Prize’s New Media Category for ‘Sudden Rain, Tilba Tilba’ a collaboration with artist Laura Gulbin. He holds a Masters of Creative Arts and was a 2008 Asialink Literature Resident in Chengdu, China, supported by the Australia Council and Arts NSW. He works as a Communications Manager at a Sydney University.
