The poems in beheld are at once sensitive and compelling, driven by vivid imagery that serves concerns about identity and existence. From montaged ‘snapshot’ recollections of a young child’s universe, through a lyrical willing of love to re-emerge from shadow, to a quietly panicked journey across Rajasthan unable to really see, the work is as much about the sense of what lies outside the frame as within it, with what can’t be known or grasped or held.

Niobe Syme is an Australian poet, writer and photographer. She grew up in Perth, has lived in Sydney and now calls the Blue Mountains home. Some of her photographic work can be viewed at: www.niobesyme.com
