Rodrigo Dela Peña, Jr., Hymnal
In Hymnal, Dela Peña crafts hymns not so much as homage to his city, but as homage to the city’s yearnings. The vendor peddles bread and soybean custards, the self bristles under the cold shock of a morning shower, and we all hurtle into a collection of Mondays, in search of more than just Mondays. The collection is a series of hymns that give praise to each of our modern hungers and the small enlightenments that emerge from them as song.
Rodrigo Dela Peña, Jr. is the author of Requiem, a chapbook. His poems have been published in Likhaan, Kritika Kultura, Rattle, Hayden’s Ferry Review, and other journals and anthologies. He has received prizes from the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Poetry, Kokoy F. Guevara Poetry Competition, British Council, Meritage Press, among others. He is based in Singapore.
