Susan M. Schultz has lived in Hawai`i since 1990. She is author, most recently, of three books of poetic prose: Dementia Blog, Memory Cards: 2010-2011 Series, and She's Welcome to Her Disease: Dementia Blog, Volume Two, all from Singing Horse Press in San Diego. She is also a critic, a blogger, a publisher (Tinfish Press), a professor, and a baseball fan (St. Louis Cardinals), who lives with her family in Kāneʻohe on the island of O`ahu.
Description: I started writing memory cards in the late 1990s, and have done so in fits and starts since. Originally, the prose poems were extracted from a manuscript that didn't work. Then, once the operating premise (writing poems incorporating memory that fit an index card or time card) was discovered, I wrote new ones. The first set was Memory Cards & Adoption Papers from Potes & Poets Press, 2001. I have always been obsessed with memory—my own, others', and public history—so these cards provide a kinetic container for memory work of various kinds. They complement my other work, which concerns forgetting (Alzheimer's/dementia).
